Purpose:

The School & Campus Safety workgroup addresses capabilities which are paramount for keeping children and those responsible for them safe.  First Responders need to be informed quickly, enabled to perform life-saving tasks when entering a building in response to an incident and able to communicate with its occupants. This committee advocates and educates school, public safety and legislative stakeholders on key practices, technologies and model legislation that will enhance life safety in schools.

The School & Campus Safety Committee has 4 Sub-Committees where members work with their Chair and Vice Chair to create resources and actions that ensure schools and campuses are more safe for all building occupants and First Responders.

Ambassadors: Help to find influential people willing to join the school safety cause and expand its visibility. Because SBC gets requests for speakers often, the Ambassador Sub-committee will also identify well-spoken presenters passionate about school safety.

Content Committee: Create resources and content for schools, seminars, advocates and the SBC website such as fact sheets, graphics, toolkits and presentations.

Legislative Committee: Gain visibility to existing and proposed school safety legislation at a national and local level.  Provide methods to influence and promote model legislation.  Begin outreach to bill sponsors.

Events Committee: Catalog all national and regional events relevant to school safety with which SBC might participate.  Identify key advocates and organizations who have access and attention in schools and school safety with whom we can partner.  Develop a stakeholder contact list to draw audiences to SBC events and speaking engagements.
