NFPA 1225 is open for public input

I know that most of you reading this are familiar with NFPA 1221: The Standard for the Installation, Maintenance, and Use of Emergency Services Communications Systems. The 2016 and 2019 editions of that standard contain the requirements for public safety in-building communications enhancement systems.

Well, an important change is taking place in the future that will make NFPA 1221 as you know it to no longer be in existence.

As part of the consolidation plan at NFPA, Standards NFPA 1061 and NFPA 1221 will be combined to form a new standard known as NFPA 1225.

Dead Zones Persist in Las Vegas Strip Buildings Two Years After Mandalay Bay Massacre

Dead Zones Persist in Las Vegas

Posted on October 21, 2019
Local media turn to the Safer Buildings Coalition for insight

Two years after the mass casualty incident at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas, the wireless dead zones that hampered first responders on the scene still plague many of the buildings on the Strip.

On the night of the massacre, several Las Vegas Police Department officers reported problems with radio communication once they entered the casino. Indeed, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department later cited Mandalay Bay’s limited radio coverage as the department’s “biggest challenge” that night. If you attended IWCE in March, you may recall that the Clarkson Brothers – of the LVPD – talked at length about these issues during their presentation.

As Las Vegas marked the second anniversary of those harrowing events, local news outlets turned to Safer Buildings Coalition Managing Director John Foley for expert comment on the situation in Vegas.

From the Chief’s Corner: One and Done, But Not When Public Safety Is Involved...

Chief Alan Perdue

Posted on September 19, 2019

Many of you have heard the common term "One and Done" used in everyday life. But have you ever thought about its origin? “One and done” became a popular term when the National Basketball Association introduced a new controversial draft rule in 2006. The rule stated that recruits needed to be 19 years old by the end of the draft year and one year removed from their high school graduation before they were eligible to participate. The effect was that high school players who might have gone directly into professional play instead spent a single year playing at the collegiate level; they were not interested in a collegiate career. They would basically play one year of college and then be done with their college play.

Director Of Communications at RF Solutions LLC

Although my title at RF Solutions is Director of Communications, I would prefer it was Chief Story Teller. I love a good story; I think most people do. Before this job, my writing experience focused on travel, culture, and global adventures. So, when an opportunity to work for a firm that installed in-building wireless solutions came about, I made sure there was a story to tell. And, after digging a little deeper, I found there were many.
