Even though we’re technically “between cycles” for many for the codes and standards that impact the coalition, the work group remains busy. In addition, we continue to grow, adding two new members in September. The turnout for our summer virtual meetings has stayed surprisingly consistent with well over 20 active members making each of our monthly calls. Thanks goes out to all the volunteers to help make this possible.

Highlighting any of the initiatives that our sub-working groups have underway is always tough since everyone remains busy, but a few items of particular note include:

  • Efforts to propose changes to the next edition of the International Fire Code making enforcement of ERCES requirements easier and more consistent. Those proposals are due in January.
  • The group working diligently to propose a series of “TIAs”  Tentative Interim Amendments — (mid-cycle changes) to NFPA 1225 has been busy as well. The goal of having these changes submitted to the full NFPA 1225 technical committee by the year’s end is still on track.
  • The UL 2524 update group has been active. Recently, proposed changes to the standard have been posted by UL for public comment.

There are many more topics that keep the Codes and Standards Working Group busy, not to mention the state and local code issues that regularly come up. As always, our group would love to have you participate. Please reach out if you are interested in becoming involved.
