Dear Safer Buildings Coalition Members,

Over the last two years I’ve been honored and proud to represent the Safer Buildings Coalition with the roles of Vice President and President of the Board of Directors.  This year I will serve as Immediate Past President where I can provide guidance and experience to our leaders who follow in my footsteps.

Wow – what an interesting time!  We have faced unprecedented challenges and uncertainty about the future, but we also have experienced unprecedented growth, creativity, and new initiatives.  We had to ensure our members retained value from membership in a virtual world while making certain that the Coalition stayed on firm financial ground.  We looked at all decisions, not only considering what is needed now, but being mindful of the precedents we are setting for the organization as it grows.  At the same time, we managed to launch our first NICET certification, the No Noise Task Force and are close to finishing the NICET Desk Reference and Study Guide which will be filled with messages from our sponsoring members.  Over a two-month period, the board participated in strategic planning sessions, creating a multi-year plan to grow the coalition and its influence to help our members grow their business while improving safety in buildings.  We also experienced legislative success in Florida, staving off a threat to building safety there, and helped some of our members work more efficiently with AHJ’s along the way.  We expanded the talent on the board by adding a new at-large member and added new work groups too.

SBC leadership and the board not only kept the wheels on the bus during extraordinary times, but we also set in motion a platform for prosperity.  I’m proud to say that the Coalition is growing faster than ever, is spreading its considerable and increasing influence, and is more united than ever.

My only regret is not being able to see and interact with the members and leaders in person throughout my entire term. However, the halting of travel and events created the opportunity to make huge progress for you.  We had an incredibly talented group of dedicated board members to work with and our newly seated board will only gain momentum.  I want to thank all of you for your support over the last couple of years and recognize our incredible staff, Steve, Jason and Nancy, who provide the glue for everything we do.
