SBC Board At-Large

Candidate Statement:
I am thrilled and honored to be considered for the Board of the Safer Building Coalition (SBC) and to serve our communities.  SBC is one of the leading organizations that is driving change in the United States building market.  Two of the businesses that I own and run, JEM Systems and Fire Services Group, are greatly benefitted by the positive work the SBC is doing to educate and train the AHJs and local jurisdictions and in turn, enrich the lives of all of us. JEM Systems has finalized partnerships with PCTEL, the leading testing equipment for public safety, as well as Honeywell, one of the leaders in both Public Safety and Fire Life Safety.  Our goal is to continue to evolve with the codes and to push for safer environments for all through our involvement in SBC.

Bio:
Born into a family of Brazilian descent, soccer was an intrinsic part of my upbringing, shaping my identity from an early age. Fueled by passion and dedication, I earned a full scholarship to play soccer at UCLA, where I thrived as a four-year starter. After college, I embarked on a thrilling journey representing the United States in Beach Soccer for a decade, competing in two World Cups while savoring the adventure of globetrotting. In parallel with my athletic pursuits, I pursued higher education and earned an MBA from UCLA's School of Management, a testament to my commitment to personal and professional growth.

In addition to my athletic achievements and academic pursuits, I have always possessed an entrepreneurial spirit that has driven me to explore new ventures and embrace risks fearlessly. Utilizing my determination and creativity, I ventured into the world of business, building successful companies that have allowed me to take control of my life paths. Guided by the same passion and dedication that fueled my soccer career, I found myself captivated by the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship.

Multilingualism has been an invaluable asset in my life, enabling seamless communication in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and French. While Southern California was my native home, my family and I now reside in Scottsdale, Arizona. In my college dorm days at UCLA, destiny led me to meet my soulmate, who shared my passion for sports. Over ten wonderful years, we have been blessed with a beautiful family of five remarkable children, four vibrant boys and an adored daughter. Together, we cherish moments of togetherness, cheering on our children during sports events, and exploring the world's wonders through travel.

Beyond the soccer field and family life, my love for flying has been a constant thread in my existence. Having been familiar with planes from the young age of two months, I took my fascination with aviation to new heights, obtaining a private pilot's license.
