Dear Safer Buildings Coalition Members,

I am excited to report to you that in just a few days, at the IWCE Conference, SBC will publicly launch the first-ever book written exclusively for designing and installing Emergency Responder Communications Enhancement Systems (ERCES). The Complete ERCES Handbook with NICET In-Building Public Safety Communications (IB-PSC) Study Guide will not only provide educational material on the best practices for the design, installation, and testing of Emergency Responder Communications Enhancement Systems (ERCES) but also prepare the technicians and designers for NICET certification. This is a major milestone in the journey of SBC towards our mission of eliminating wireless dead zones, as it will raise the competency of the industry and raise awareness of SBC as a pre-eminent organization in the field of In-building Public Safety Communications. This book was the result of the tireless efforts of the SBC Staff, key members, and industry experts, and I am truly grateful to everybody who contributed ideas and efforts to make this book a reality. If you haven't already, order your copies at http://www.erceshandbook.com – the book is scheduled to ship end of May.

And of course,  SBC Members get a nice discount!

For those who have already placed orders,  rest assured you will receive your copy in the first shipping batch. If you have changed your email or shipping address,  please send us a message (click here) to provide us your update.

If you are attending IWCE, you'll also have a chance to see a printed galley copy of this book at the SBC's Annual Members' meeting and dinner scheduled to be held on Monday, March 27, 2023, from 5 – 9 pm at the IWCE conference in Las Vegas. This is one of my favorite events of the year, as it provides me an opportunity to meet friends, network with peers, and learn about what is going on in the industry. You will get to hear from industry leaders like Billy Bob Brown (Executive Assistant Director for Emergency Communications at DHS/CISA) and Chip Hollis (VP of NICET). This is a must-attend event for anybody in the In-building Public Safety Communications industry. If you haven't already done so, please register immediately.

Since our members' annual event is co-located with IWCE, it allows us to meet the broader industry at the IWCE Expo. SBC will be exhibiting on the IWCE floor, so please stop by to say hello to SBC staff at booth # 1652. We’ll be hosting booth presentations that dive deeper into the content of the Handbook at various times on Wednesday and Thursday. Additionally, you’ll have a chance to meet and greet Andrew Lealofi, a tower climber and Occupational Health and Safety Technician featured in NATE’s Vertical Freedom documentary.

Outside of the Exhibit Hall, IWCE will feature some educational panel discussions led by SBC leadership. If your schedule allows, please consider attending these panel discussions.

For a more complete list of sessions and schedule of events, take a look at our IWCE 2023 article here.

We are only three months into the year, and we have already made tremendous progress this year. But there is still a lot to be done. Realizing our collective mission of eliminating dead zones is going to take more than the SBC staff. Each one of us has a unique role in the IB-PSC ecosystem and can help. Rather than sitting on the sidelines, all members can and must do whatever little we can do to move the organization forward and make more impact. Here are some of the ways that all members and their organization staff can help:

  1. Does your company provide training? Contact us to ask about bundling our book and the NICET curriculum into your training offerings!
  2. Contribute time to an SBC task/workgroups/committees
  3. Attend SBC events
  4. Promote the book and SBC events on social media
  5. Introduce SBC to potential new members
  6. Sponsor SBC events
  7. Refer others for sponsorship of SBC events

We have a lot of work to do, and the more people that get involved, the faster we can accomplish our mission of eliminating dead zones. I implore you to pick any one of the tasks above and get involved.

Thank you for your steadfast support of the SBC mission. I am looking forward to meeting you at the Members' dinner in Las Vegas and discussing ideas on how we can make more impact as an organization and deliver more value to the members.
